Progression Agreements

What is a progression agreement?

A progression agreement is an agreement between colleges and universities to provide learners with a clearer route into and through vocational education.

How can we make them happen?

All Further and Higher Education members of Leap Ahead have signed up to a memorandum of agreement which intends to deliver an increase in the number of learners progressing into and through Higher Education from vocational pathways. This objective will be achieved through the development of progression agreements.

What is the role of Leap Ahead?

The role of Leap Ahead is to facilitate a collaborative approach in the development of a sustainable network wide solution, to be owned by network members and embedded within their institutions. In doing so, we acknowledge the diversity of our network partners in respect of mission, and internal structures and systems. Our approach will aim to actively encourage representation from all network members at every stage in the development of progression agreements.

Leap Ahead progression agreements consultation event

Leap Ahead held a progression agreement consultation event on the 8 November 2007 at Nottingham Trent University. We stimulated discussion that informed the development of a model progression agreement and it's core principles and functionality. The event was a success with representation form our 12 network partners, along with our colleagues from Aim Higher Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire and the 14-19 Diploma Strategy teams.

Recognising that progression agreements are likely to involve colleagues from across a range of functions within each institution, the event was supported by e-consultation to ensure a full and broad range of perspectives was captured amongst those who were unable to attend. This was in the form of a series of 'key questions' concluding a discussion paper.
